Automated particle size analysis of suspensions and emulsions ranging from 0.1 µm to 3,500 µm in the laboratory
Combining the HELOS laser diffraction sensor, the QUIXEL wet disperser and a collaborative robot enables the fully automated analysis of the particle size of suspensions and emulsions in the 0.1 µm – 3,500 µm range. This configuration combines precise laboratory measurements with automated sample handling, making it particularly suitable for laboratories with high sample throughput.
The HELOS modular laser diffraction sensor can measure particle sizes across a wide range and provides stable measurement data for a variety of dispersed systems. The Cobot collaborative robot system is used for automated sample feeding. It retrieves samples from a rack and feeds them into the measurement process sequentially. In the standard configuration, it can process up to 32 samples in batch mode.
The number of samples, rack geometry and supported vessel types and closure variants can be adapted to meet customer requirements. Sample throughput is 12 to 15 measurements per hour, although higher rates are possible depending on the application. Automation minimises manual handling steps and ensures the efficient execution of extensive measurement series.
The measurement and automation processes are centrally controlled via the PAQXOS analysis software. Measurement methods are fully parameterised and saved for repeat analyses. Automated measurement sequences can then be defined to coordinate sample feeding, dispersion, measurement and cleaning. All relevant measurement and process parameters are documented and available for analysis, comparison and quality assurance purposes.
This configuration is particularly well-suited to laboratory environments with a medium to high sample throughput, such as those involved in product development, quality assurance or quality control.
