QICPIC
LIXELL

Determination of the size and shape of particles from 1 µm to 2,000 µm in a broad range of wet applications with dynamic image analysis

With its flexible and modular layout, the combination of image analysis sensor QICPIC and wet dispersion unit LIXELL is the most versatile system configuration for analysis of the size and shape of particles in the range from 1 µm to 2,000 µm in liquid media. With different cuvettes and accessory sets, numerous applications starting from a sample volume of 20 ml can be realised. Depending on the setup, LIXELL can be run in flow-through mode or in closed-loop operation. The system is suitable both for standard measurement setups and for experimental layouts.

For small sample volumes from 20 ml, we recommend that the suspension or emulsion under analysis is fed in via dosing syringes. Application Set I contains a basic set of equipment with 10 ml and 50 ml dosing syringes, taps, distributors, connections and tubes.

If larger sample volumes are available, the measurement configuration can be operated as a flow-through setup or as a closed measuring circuit depending on the requirements of the application. Application Set II contains a peristaltic pump, a 2,000 ml beaker, a magnetic stirrer and the corresponding tubing to set up an external circuit. The suspension or emulsion is homogenised with the magnetic stirrer in the beaker. It is then fed as a continuous product flow to the measurement cuvette via the peristaltic pump.

With layer thicknesses from 30 µm to 4 mm, different cuvettes enable flexible adaptation to the relevant application. The setup can be changed over quickly thanks to the fast and simple cuvette change and the automatic RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) detection of the mounted cuvette. In order to tailor the chemical resistance to the dispersing liquid, different materials are available for tubes and gaskets (Marprene®, Tygon®, EPDM, NBR, FKM or FFKM). Other parts that are in contact with the product are non-corrosive and resistant as they are manufactured from stainless steel or quartz glass.

The modular concept of the QICPIC image analysis sensors allows this configuration to be systematically expanded with numerous dispersion units and dosing options, thereby opening it up to many more product-appropriate measuring applications.

For true-to-method analyses which are subject to validation we recommend adding the wet dosing unit LIQXI to the system if your application is targeted at finely dispersed suspensions and emulsions with particles ranging from 1 µm to 500 µm.
