Spectacular NANOPHOX Development! Sympatec GmbH has released a major re-design of its unique Dynamic Light Scattering based NANOPHOX PCCS instrument. The Sympatec specific NNLS evaluation algorithm, allowing for secure determination of size distributions even with multimodal structures has now been enhanced with the “auto-NNLS” mode. The outstanding performance provides very reliable and realistic information about the particle size distributions, which are at the same time highly reproducible. The auto-NNLS mode requires no operator input for optimum determination of evaluation parameters and thus is applicable in validated environments and for FDA conform SOP’s as well. During the recent annual 2007 meeting of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists in San Diego (11 to 15 November) Glenn Carlson & Bruno Hancock of Pfizer Inc., Groton CT, USA, presented a very informative poster regarding "The Effect of lot-to-lot Particle Size Variation in AVICELL PH Grades of Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC) on Bulk Powder and Compact Properties". The particle size distribution was analysed using the Sympatec HELOS laser diffraction (LD) instrument and the RODOS dry powder disperser. These (LD) results were then complemented with a shape distribution analysis performed on the Sympatec QICPIC dynamic image analysis instrument using the RODOS dry powder disperser. More ... WINDOX 5.4 released The new software for particle size and shape analysis, WINDOX 5.4, has been released. It can be validated and comes with the following major improvements: Image analyses may now contain up to 100,000,000 particles in 2GB of disk space. User and Database Administration can now be executed while users are connected to the database server. The database maintenance can now be made a scheduled task.Up to ten instances of the Data Visualisation Program may be run concurrently on the same computer. A WINDOX license can now be easily transferred from the software protection key to the computer and back. More ...	PICTIS & MYTIS on-line Analysis of Granulates and fragile Particles For the on-line or automated laboratory (at-line) analysis of granulates and fragile particles the family of process instruments has been extended by two new devices. PICTIS combines the high speed image analysis of QICPIC with the gentle dispersion of the gravity disperser GRADIS in a singe robust instrument, covering a size range from 5 µm to 10,000 µm. The on-line image analyser PICTIS with vibratory feeder VIBRI/L-GMP MYTIS is using the well established laser diffraction in combination with the gravity disperser GRADIS, covering a size range from 0.5 to 3,500 µm in three measuring ranges. Both units are fed by a constant mass flow from the vibratory feeder VIBRI/L and are available for pharmaceutical applications as GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) version as an option.	PICTOS On-line Image Analysis The unique combination of dry dispersion and high speed image analysis is now available for on-line applications in process environments. The on-line image analyser PICTOS with vibratory feeder VIBRI/L PICTOS combines the components of the high speed image analysing sensor QICPIC and the dry disperser RODOS in a rigid stainless steel housing. As with the on-line laser diffraction sensor MYTOS it can be connected directly to the representative sampler TWISTER or the vibratory feeder VIBRI. The current size range from 5 µm to 3.5 mm is covered by 3 measuring ranges. Communication and control over long distances is performed by a built-in 100MBit/1GBit TCP-IP network.
